During my first year of university, we had a lecture by Stills Photographer Giles Keyte, he was such a stimulating and energetic speaker that he inspired me to at least experience Unit Stills Photography. Since graduation in 2018 I have been banging and kicking doors, sending emails and phoning contacts for an opportunity to generate a set of Unit Stills Photographs. Finally, my hard work and tenacity came to fruition; I gained the opportunity to photograph on two BBC productions.Read more

Burry Port Beards
It is impossible to ignore the increasing popularity of beards. This phenomenon has the potential of spanning the life-time of men and they can be well-tended and cared for or left to run riot on the face. This photographic exposition captures 20 men that I have observed in Burry Port town and harbour. The men include residents, visitors and even a transient cyclist. Gordon
Gordon is an octogenarian gentleman who has lived and worked in Burry Port all his life. He was born in a two-bedroomed terrace house, which he shared with his parents and grandparents. In 1939, aged five, he moved with his parents, into a three-bedroomed council house on the same street and attended the Copperworks School in Morlan Terrace in an adjacent street. Gordon impressed me as a very smart and presentable man with a very well tended garden and tidyRead more
Lion King
I was invited to photograph a performance of the Lion King at Ysgol Maes Y Coed in Neath, South Wales, which is a school that caters for young people with a variety of complex learning difficulties from the ages of 2 to 19 years. Maes Y Coed is an amazing and very welcoming school with dedicated and caring staff who are committed to supporting the education of all their young people. It was my objective to capture the excitement andRead more
Hamletmachine
I have managed to obtain a position as an unpaid Stills Photographer on a movie to be shot in London in January 2020. The subject is one that is of great personal interest to me; the men and woman who live on our streets with their companion dogs and the benefits that are gained from this relationship. To equip me with some rudimentary skills to fulfil the role of Stills Photographer I am in contact with several organisations to gainRead more
BBC Antiques Roadshow
Roz and I visited the BBC Antiques Roadshow at the National Botanic of Garden Wales in Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire. This most popular of BBC programmes has been part of my TV viewing life since the dawn of television in my parents’ home several decades ago and having an opportunity to attend this British institution on my doorstep was not to be missed. The day started out with heavy rain and wind so we delayed our departure until the weather calmed-down. AlthoughRead more
‘… could the grass remember?’
I visited the amazing Toril Brancher photography exhibition ‘… could the grass remember?’at National Trust Dinefwr. (NT) All the images are beautifully printed. The blacks are ‘BLACK’! Each plant is picked-out in subtle, pale hues and draws you into the scene, enveloping you with calmness and serenity. There are two large, mounted photographs, approximately 80cm square (fig #1). I felt an immediate connection with these images and I could easily see them adorning my lounge wall, adding a sensation of tranquilityRead more
Tish Murtha
I attended the excellent Tish Murtha exhibition at the Photographers’ Gallery in London. Murtha was a student of David Hurn on the Documentary Photography course at the Newport College of Art. The exhibition covers her work from 1976 to 1991 and includes six major bodies of work from her oeuvre. Her first project was Newport Pub, which was in response to a set assignment. The subjects were the ‘regulars’ of a pub in a ‘deprived’ areaRead more
Our ‘Communities’ Exhibition
It was a full-on and exhausting day for all of us, but so rewarding and I am delighted to be part of this group; we all helped, encouraged and supported each other. Each of us produced a unique display for our photographs; for example, Anna manufactured a light-box with acetate images of her subjects, a group of actors and Philip created a light-tight, tent-like enclosure to display photos of his role-play characters. We all chose an induvial approachRead more
Bauta Exhibition
As the day of our ‘Communities’ exhibition draws near we are all busy with the final preparation of our six individual photographic projects for our University assignment. My friend Tim Swain has given me access to his recently opened art gallery in Burry Port, ‘Studio 46’. This has enabled me to assembly the Medieval rope bed I manufactured to display my exhibition photographs and prepare a sequenced layout of my prints. The subjects for my project have been the CardiffRead more
