Foothold Cymru

I was invited by Foothold Cymru to lead a group of Llanelli residents on a photographic adventure, using their own cameras; be it Smartphone or regular camera. We kicked-off proceedings at the Paddock Street Community Centre with a presentation of my view of Llanelli and a discussion as to my reasons for each photograph and how each one made me feel, which was followed by a lively group debate.
Foothold’s Nick Peace invited everyone to “Discover your world through the lens of Photography” and to participate in our ‘Seeing Llanelli’ collaborative Full Circle Photography Project and scheduled photography exhibitions.
Although the concept of the Photography Project is for everyone to be self-directed; on a couple of occasions we arranged to meet in the Llanelli library to discuss our strategy for photo-capturing the two Llanelli Festivals: the Vintage Festival on 20th September, and the Food and Drink Festival on 18th October.
With the participants own Llanelli photo-safaris and invitations to the two Festivals, we created portfolios of our personal view of the town’s Festivals.
These are my interpretations of the two festivals:

On Saturday 15th November we held our inaugural photo exhibition at the recently opened Pentre Awel in Llanelli, displaying our current assemblage of ‘Seeing Llanelli’ photographs.
From the hundreds of submitted photos, I curated, what I consider, to be a broad spectrum of the images and considerations of our ‘Seeing Llanelli’ photography group. A selection of the participants’ photographs was presented on free-standing display panels in the main piazza as part of the Foothold ‘Storytelling Festival’.

The Foothold Festival also included Welsh stories and legends articulated by the enigmatic storyteller Ceri John Phillips and the announcement and prize-giving of the Foothold ‘Secret Lives of Animals’ short story competition.

There were also vendors promoting storytelling books for the young and not so young.

In the New Year we shall organise an update exhibition of our ‘Seeing Llanelli’ photography groups’ individual Llanelli perspective.
