Dead Paper

Dead Paper

At last I managed to visit the Creative Bubble gallery in Swansea to see the Dead Paper exhibition curated by Mandy Lane. It took my poor old SatNav a while to fathom the one way system in Swansea but it was well worth circumnavigating the city a few times to find the gallery.

I’m glad I made the effort to find the gallery which exhibited a collection of art by eight woman including Mandy. The booklet accompanying the exhibition described it as ‘an all-women Exhibition with works exploring the cultural subjection of women in today’s society’, bit of a mouthful, but I did get it. What I didn’t get was the title; Dead Paper, but my fault, I didn’t ask.

I had met Mandy at a previous exhibition that she curated at The Pontadawe Arts Centre and also at the Saith Gallery in Burry Port run by Roz Moreton.

Mandy’s exhibition encouraged a healthy debate on the role of woman in society generally and not just in art and we gave praise to Victoria Pendleton for her recent success as a jockey.

The excellent art displayed in the Creative Bubble was very well produced and thought provoking and each piece had a meaningful story that was enthusiastically presented and discussed by Mandy.

The University of Wales, Trinity St. David, sponsors the excellent Creative Bubble project. I’ll be following the Creative Bubble and attend more of their exhibitions.
