Un1t 7 Bike Night – 2nd October 2025

I attended a Un1t 7 Bike Night on 2nd October, which was a tribute and celebration of fellow biker John (Aldo) Lyons

My objective was to capture an essence of the bikers and their machines. Everyone was very amenable to having their photo taken, and to present their magnificent steeds.

I was reminded of my younger days of riding motorcycles in the ‘60s. One of my bikes was a James 98cc, two-speed hand-change motorcycle, fitted with leg shields. It must have done at least 20-MPH! Before the age-appropriate licence, we, our little gang, used ride around on an untaxed or insured Francis-Barnett Plover that didn’t seem to belong to anyone. I managed to graduate to a Triumph Tiger Cub, on which I passed my test, on first attempt, despite the examiner noting that my bike was spuing oil over the road. Later I purchased a 1965 Suzuki T10. This model had a 12-volt battery, push-button start and a hydraulic rear brake, unheard of on British bikes of the time. It was in white and chrome and was reasonably quick. My friend Bernie bought a Suzuki T20, and we used to terrorise the local streets of our little town of Farncombe in Surrey. Great fun.

I regret selling any of these bikes, as now they are worth a tidy sum.

Now, at the age of 76, I am considering retuning to biking, after a hiatus of over 50-years, with the purchase of a BMW R1150 RT, but not without first getting some tuition to ensure that I’m not a danger to myself or other road users.
