I have admired and been inspired by Mel since I first met her at the Saith Gallery in Burry Port, created and run by Roz Moreton. Mel enthralled me with a description of her Bringing Gower Home project, which provided one-day photography workshops for up to 12 participants. It was a brilliant concept which was designed to be all-inclusive for people who may not usually have opportunities to visit the Gower and to produce photographs with the cameras provided. The day’s photography workshop culminated with the participants’ presenting their work and discussing their feelings about the experience. The aim of the project was to develop the participants’ life-skills and self-esteem. Mel invited me to attend one of the workshops, which was held at the Gower Heritage Centre.
The following series of photographs is of an exhibition and celebration of the Bringing Gower Home photography workshops, which took place 14th October 2015 in Port Talbot.
