BA2 Photography Exhibition

I visited the photography exhibition of the work of the second year BA photography students of Coleg Sir Gar. The exhibition was held at the Powerhouse Community & Arts Centre in Llandysul, which is in a redundant power generation building of unique historical significance that has been rescued and refurbished by the local community.

It was great to see the work of my friends and to witness the growth and maturity of their work. The photographs on display covered a wide spectrum of topics from the surreal to the changing face of a small Welsh village and the manic streets of a US city.

On entering the gallery I observed an art class that occupied a large area of the main gallery and was immediately struck by the creative energy of this amazing space. The leader of the art class was Pod Clare, who describes herself as a Community Artist, was running a creative art class for a diverse range of ages. The creative energy in the space was palpable.

I have visited the Powerhouse on several occasions and I’m always heartened and encouraged by the efforts and achievements of the committed group of local residents who had the vision and energy to create this amazing art space. Their achievements give me great encouragement to battle-on with our own ambitious plan to save a redundant school in Burry Port to create a centre of well-being and art in the community.
