The Workers’ Gallery
I ventured out into the Rhondda valley recently to visit The Workers’ Gallery in Ynyshir, which is situated about 16 miles NW of Cardiff. The charming Workers’ Gallery has been set-up in the former Ynyshir library after it was put up for auction by the local council and artists Gayle and Chris applied to ‘save’ the building by renting the space and converting it into an art gallery and studio. The gallery now hosts art and design exhibitions and workshops. There is a wonderful eclectic range of artwork on display from the gallery artists and Gayle has her art studio in the gallery also.
The gallery is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 to 17:00 and there’s always a warm welcome and perhaps a cup of tea and choccie biscuit.
I am very encouraged by what Gayle and Chris have achieved here and it gives me a vision of what we could achieve with our ROCS campaign in Burry Port (see To Save an Old School elsewhere in my blog posts).
